Grantee Spotlight: Renzulli Gifted and Talented Academy Earns Distinction
The Renzulli Academy, a well-decorated grades 4-12 school, was recently designated a Connecticut School of Distinction.
Founded in 2009, the academy was the only school in Hartford to be named a School of Distinction and was the only urban school in the state to receive this distinction for highest overall performance. The annual recognition is divided into three categories—highest overall student performance, most progress, and highest performing subgroups of students (African-American, Hispanic, low-income, students with disabilities, and English language learners).

As reported in the Hartford Courant, Dr. Jacqueline Jacoby, special assistant to the Hartford Board of Education, said, “The Renzulli Academy is celebrated by the Hartford Public Schools because it reflects the vision of a choice system of high performing schools. It gives its students the room to grow and perform advanced-level work that enhances their interests and their intellectual ability.”
The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation awarded the Renzulli Academy a $500,000 grant in 2012 to expand the Renzulli Academy philosophy in three other districts.
Congratulations!
