Jack Kent Cooke Scholars Host Music Festival in the UK, Sept 12-21
Jack Kent Cooke Scholars Eugene Feygelson and Noam Faingold have teamed up to orchestrate a music festival in the UK called the i = u Festival. The i = u Festival, which runs from September 12-21, celebrates improvisation in music, and improvisatory collaboration with dancers, actors, filmmakers and visual artists. It’s being held at Yinka Shonibare’s Guest Projects, 1 Andrews Road, Hackney, London E8 1EU. All tickets are free, but booking is required.

The festival has received media coverage and interest in the UK and the musical community at-large.
This is a grassroots project that features many innovative musicians including violist Max Baillie with Leafcutter John; the Oxford Laptop Orchestra; cellist Ayanna Witter-Johnson; Austrian composer Thomas Eisl with multigenre violinist Phillip Granell; pianist Bobby Mitchell; violinist/singer-songwriter Eugene Feygelson; Quest Ensemble; 12 ensemble; composers Steve Potter, Federico Reuben, and Justin Christensen as the Whiggly Ensemble; composer/performers Jonathan Russell and Brian Mark; the Guildhall School’s David Dolan; and, Noam Faingold’s Burning City Orchestra.
Artist Michael Dylan Ferrara will be exhibiting a series of his 35mm multiple exposures that coordinate with the photos used on the i = u website. Through layering exposures as they’re being taken, i.e. 3 different exposures on the same negative, MDF manipulates light and space in an improvised manner. The result is a fusion of those exposures and unknown until the film is developed.
A video about the festival along with a calendar of events and how to stream events live are all available on the I = u website. Follow i = u on Facebook and Twitter to stay updated on the latest events and other event news.
Congrats to the JKCF Scholars and their colleagues for a wonderfully creative project! We are proud of you!
