Phi Theta Kappa Features Cooke Scholar Sofia Medina-Pardo
Cooke Scholar Sofia Medina-Pardo is featured in the latest edition of the Phi Theta Kappa Foundation Visionary journal, where she discusses her journey. Although Sofia was an honors student in high school, a delay in finalizing her family’s permanent residency status prevented her from accepting enrollment offers at the prestigious universities she had originally set her sights on.
Instead, she began her studies at Essex County College, where she became a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, co-founded the Essex County DREAM (Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors) Team, and earned an Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship to continue her pre-med studies at Johns Hopkins University..

As we shared in September, Sofia has also recently been profiled in an Emmy-nominated TV segment.
